At Daisy Chain we aim to help children become aware of their environment and in small ways think ‘green’. Within our garden areas we promote children’s interest in growing herbs, fruits and vegetables. Children water plants using water collected in our rain butts and later use the produce in cooking activities. This promotes healthy eating and an understanding of living things.
Our nurseries are well stocked with high quality resources and equipment. In addition to this, we also develop down to earth ideas using recycled materials, encouraging young imaginations with ‘open ended’ resources. For example, Junk modelling is always a favourite and many a space rocket has been made with cereal boxes and recycled water bottles. Recycled pots and pans in our “wish, bash, bosh” area make great musical instruments, empty cable reels are fantastic for construction play and drain pipes make amazing water cascades. We use and support the Scrap Creative Reuse Art Project (Sunny Bank Mills) for accessing arts & craft materials and other resources and also use Cosy for equipment & resources.
Children learn how to be kind to nature; we invite guests such as ‘Zoolab’ to introduce small animals and insects to the children. If they wish, children are invited to hold creatures they may not have encountered before such as giant snails, centipedes, spiders, stick insects, rabbits and guinea pigs etc..
We have a green travel plan in place for the staff as part of our policies and procedures.
Education and Development in a nurturing setting are at the core of what we do.
A key-person will keep you informed. We pride ourselves on communication and working together.
