Daisy Chain Childcare is very much a family business. All three of the company founders are mothers and draw on this experience in the running of the company. The company strongly believes that it’s employees are at the heart of the business and values, supports and trains each individual, helping them to grow and develop in their childcare careers.
Daisy Chain Childcare is committed to safeguarding children. All staff and volunteers are expected to share this commitment. An enhanced DBS and references are required for all vacancies.
I started working at Daisy Chain in March 2013 as a Nursery Assistant.
I was enrolled onto an NVQ Level 3 Childcare qualification and alongside that I attended various external training courses to better my knowledge and understanding. It was evident from the beginning that the managers would be supportive with my desire to learn and progress at a quick pace, and they themselves are very keen on progression within the company.
I had mentioned in my interview that I would like to eventually work with children with additional needs. This was taken into consideration and within a couple of months I was key person for a child with additional requirements and was receiving a great deal of training and support in Special Educational Needs.
By May 2014 I was fortunate enough to be offered the position of Senior Nursery Nurse at one of our other sites. I qualified as a Level 3 Nursery Nurse in July 2014 and began the position of Senior in September 2014. I quickly learnt and adapted to this role and thoroughly enjoyed it. I continued with my training and also went on to qualify in Level 2 Leadership and management. In April 2015 a position for Deputy Manager became available so I applied and was successful in my application. I began the role immediately and 10 months on I am still really enjoying this role and learning new things all the time. As well as being Deputy Manager and SENCO, I am also now the Company Health and Safety Officer which is a very enjoyable role. I am looking forward to continuing as Deputy Manager and seeing what the future brings with further progressions within the company.
I have always wanted to work with children from an early age and throughout my school life I knew working in a nursery was where I wanted to be.
When I finished high school, I went straight onto find an apprenticeship in childcare, where I could work with the children and also learn at the same time. I enrolled at a college in Leeds to do Childcare Level 2 course and Daisy Chain employed me as their Apprentice which I started in September 2007.
I instantly felt part of the team working Monday to Thursday and attended college on a Friday. I completed my induction at Daisy Chain and also followed a training schedule that was passed around the room seniors as I worked two weeks in each room and rotated. After two years I gained my qualifications and Daisy Chain offered me a full time nursery assistant position in the Elves room (pre-school). I then wanted to further my education and Daisy Chain supported me and enrolled me onto a Level 3 Nursery Nurse course.
In October 2010 I was thrilled at passing my level 3, I felt the course had given me lots of support and knowledge into my chosen profession.
At the beginning of 2012 a Senior Nursery Nurse position became available in the Elves Pre-school room and due to my experience and my qualifications I applied for the position and was successful. I officially became Senior in February 2012 and remain in post to this day.
Since this promotion, I enrolled onto a leadership course to further my career and to help support and manage my team well.
I always like to further my skill base and Daisy Chain have supported me in this allowing me to attend many more courses and workshops to provide quality teaching and care.
I have always enjoyed working in the Elves room, it’s a busy working room where we prepare children for the transition to full time school. There is no greater satisfaction than seeing the children confidently head off to this new phase in their life.
